What educators are saying

This was a great resource for helping my students understand hierarchy of shapes. They loved the activities and note taking sheets
I love all of your products. They are such a great guide for my students, especially the notes to put in their notebooks.

    Description

Teach your students how to classify polygons, specifically quadrilaterals and triangles, into a hierarchy by understanding and identifying their attributes.  This comprehensive digital & printable resource pack provides everything you need to teach 5th Grade Geometry (2D Shapes):  mini-lessons, practice, task cards, formative and summative assessments, as well as project-based learning.

Begin the unit by reviewing polygons as well as types of lines and angles. Then, introduce the attributes of triangles and quadrilaterals, showing them how to classify them and arrange them in a hierarchy.  Check for student understanding using the task cards and assess with the provided quiz and quadrilateral design project.

This resource is complete, concise, and easy to follow with a clear format.  It is low-prep, easy to assign to a sub, and contains engaging printable activities and digital versions for use with Google Classroom.  If your students are struggling with classifying triangles and quadrilaterals or identifying their attributes, this resource is for you!

    Inclusive vs. Exclusive Trapezoid

All quadrilateral notes and activities include two versions (and answer keys) so that you can use them whether you teach the inclusive definition of a trapezoid or the exclusive definition of a trapezoid.

Common Core Standards (CCSS) and Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE):  5.G.3, 5.G.4

    How Can You Use This?

Introduce each skill with the detailed set of notes and sample problems.  The notes will help students to visually understand classifying triangles as well as understanding the quadrilateral hierarchy and how quadrilaterals are classified based on their attributes.  I suggest doing this in a whole group setting and displaying the PDF or pulling the slides up on a Smartboard if you’re in person or share the screen online if you’re teaching virtually.

Gradually release students to practice independently using the practice pages or slides activities.  Check for understanding and mastery after teaching each skill using the exit tickets and two sets of task cards.  The exit tickets are great for helping to form small groups or pull students for quick intervention.

When all skills have been taught, assess with the final quiz when you feel students are ready.  There is also a fun, hands-on quadrilateral design project. Students will design an entire place using only quadrilaterals and create a design key in which they classify each piece of their design in its correct quadrilateral name based on its attributes.
