5th Grade Back to School Math Mini Mysteries Activities - Morning Work

This 5th Grade Back to School Math Packet contains TEN fun Mini-Math Mysteries in printable and digital formats! This packet is ideal for 5th Grade or any class working with the math skills and content listed below (this particular set is designed to be used at the beginning of the school year, it reviews skills from the 4th-grade curriculum). It is also distance learning-friendly with a digital option for the worksheets on Google Slides and Easel.

What are Mini-Math Mysteries?

Mini-Math Mysteries are a fun 'game-like' one-page activity to practice math skills. They are a condensed version of a mystery and follow a simple elimination structure where students will use their answers to eliminate possibilities. The mystery story is short (a couple of sentences to a paragraph), and unlike my regular mysteries, there are no clue messages or video hooks for these. I've designed these for educators who want something quick and short to assign to students while still keeping it fun!

Please note: This 5th Grade set is designed to be used at the start of the school year. It reviews skills from the 4th Grade curriculum.

• Multi-Step Word Problems (Mixed Operations)
• Multiplication (1-digit by 2, 3, and 4-digit numbers)
• Addition numbers with up to 5 digits
• Place Value up to 1 million
• Subtraction with numbers up to 5 digits
• Equivalent Fractions
• Adding Fractions (Like Denominators, no simplifying required)
• Subtracting Fractions (Like Denominators, simplifying required)
• Area of Rectangles
• Long Division (Divide 3-digit and 4-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers, with remainders)

Prep:

• Print the mystery worksheet page, make as many copies as you need for your kids, and the activity is ready to go!

OR

• Click on the Google Slide Link of the Mystery Worksheet you would like your students to complete. Then make a copy for each student and assign it via Google Classroom.

OR

• Open in TPT's Easel platform. Select the pages you want to use, then assign the mysteries to your students.

Optional:

Printable awards and brag tags are provided to give to your Student Detectives after solving the mystery.
