Description
In this 4th grade math activity, students create a geometry study guide lapbook by drawing lines, angles, and shapes onto the included pages and gluing them into a folded file folder.
This resource includes:
- teacher directions
- step-by-step student directions with photos
- a blank version - students draw their own shapes and figures)
- a pre-drawn version - shapes and figures area already filled in (great for differentiation!)
Geometric shapes and figures include:
- type of lines (parallel, perpendicular, and intersecting, etc.)
- types of angles (acute, right, obtuse, and straight)
- types of shapes (open and closed figures, regular and irregular polygons)
- types of triangles (acute, right, obtuse, equilateral, isosceles, and scalene)
- types of quadrilaterals (parallelogram, rhombus, rectangle, square, and trapezoid)
- types of polygons (pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon, nonagon, and decagon)
I have my students create this study guide throughout our geometry unit. As we cover new material, students gradually add it to the lapbook. It looks a little like this:
- Day 1 - introduce lines and angles (you may want to use this lines and angles Google Slides lesson) and complete the front of the lapbook (title, “Types of Lines,” and “Types of Angles.”
- Day 2 - introduce polygons (you may want to use this “What are Polygons?” Google Slides lesson) and complete the “Types of Shapes” section on the inside left flap.
- Day 3 - introduce types of triangles (you may want to use this triangles Google Slides lesson) and complete the “Types of Triangles section at the top of the inside center.
- Day 4 - introduce types of quadrilaterals (you may want to use this quadrilaterals Google Slides lesson) and complete the “Types of Quadrilaterals” section at the bottom of the inside center.
- Day 5 - introduce polygons with more than 4 sides (you may want to use this polygons Google Slides lesson) and complete the “Types of Polygons” section on the inside right flap.
