What educators are saying

This was an excellent resource. Students worked on each problem and then we created a Bulletin Board for Black History Month.

Description

This file contains 26 high-interest math word problems designed for test prep 4th graders and review for 5th graders. Problems focus on famous black Americans. Students are given a bit of history on the person as well as a word problem to solve. This file is perfect for math teachers who also want to teach about famous African Americans and get students ready for test prep in the spring.

Take the fear out of testing. Although this is designed for 4th graders, 5th grade teachers can use this packet as well to get students use to solving word problems. The more they see them and practice them, the stronger their problem solving skills become.

Concepts covered include vocabulary building, converting kilograms to grams, reading charts, reading a time line, calculating age by subtracting dates, finding the range and interpreting the remainder in a division problem.

This is a great way to get students practicing multi-step story problems.

An answer sheet is included with each one showing the steps needed to solve the problem.
