3rd Grade Wonders Word Work Google Slides Bundle

These spelling activities will help your students master the spelling words aligned with the 2014, 2017, 2020, and 2023 Wonders™ program. These Google Slides™ contain 4 different sorting activities for each week. Students sort the digital word cards (included) according to the directions each day. Then they type the results of the sort on the slides. The text boxes are already created for them.

Rationale - Even before being able to read, students can begin sorting. They can sort pictures by beginning sounds, ending sounds, vowel sounds, number of syllables, etc. Students also learn how to spell words they don’t think they know how to spell by comparing words through sorts. Knowing how to spell familiar words gives the students reference points for knowing how to begin spelling new words.

The process of sorting words into various categories is the heart of word study. Categorizing different words by certain elements helps students make sense of words and patterns within words. These word sorts combine both constructivist learning and teacher-directed instruction.

The more students understand about the structure of words the more efficient and fluent their reading will be. Word sorting activities emphasize the exploration of patterns that can be detected in the sound, structure, and meaning features of words. Thus, word sorts not only improve spelling, they increase reading and writing skills.

Application - Your students will critically analyze the words and type them each day. The sorting actives are designed with three levels of words, approaching level, on level, and beyond level. Each week has 4 different sorting activities. Your students will use the sorting cards included on each slide to sort the words. When they finish sorting, they will type the words into the prepared text boxes to show how they sorted them.
