What educators are saying

When I moved to Third Grade from Second it was a big adjustment as there is quite literally no provided curriculum at my district. I had already purchased this for Second Grade and loved it then. It has been a tremendous help in planning and engaging my students at the third grade level.
This has been a lifesaver! It has everything I need to teach science for the entire year, including Google slides, student journals, exit tickets & assessments, activities and experiments.

Third Grade Science Lab Materials List

    Description

Teaching third grade science, aligned the Next Generation Science Standards, is quite challenging without quality resources to guide you. These in-depth science units address all the 3rd grade NGSS topics and enable you to plan and teach highly-engaging lessons that don’t take hours to plan because I’ve done it all for you!

The six complete units in this bundle blend three important aspects of science and engineering education: the content, the skills, and the big picture ideas. These units incorporate phenomena, integrate Crosscutting Concepts, and provide engaging content contained in the Disciplinary Core Ideas in the Next Generation Science Standards for 3rd grade.

The science and engineering practices embedded in each unit give your students opportunities to learn and apply science practice skills and engineering design.

Third Grade Science Units Inside the Bundle

    Inherited Traits

    Force & Motion

    Weather & Climate

    Engineering Design

    Scientists & The Scientific Method

    Environment, Survival & Fossil Evidence

    Teaching PowerPoints

Each unit in this year-long series includes an in-depth teacher-led PowerPoint using real photos that present the science content in a vibrant and engaging format. All lessons include turn and talk partner discussion questions and are followed by science journal activities to reinforce the lessons and apply content vocabulary.

    STEM Labs & Investigations

Every lesson includes an investigation or STEM lab for students to engage in a combination of: designing and building models, drawing diagrams, conducting simulations, designing solutions to problems in the natural world, collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data, using tables and graphs, incorporating mathematical practices, and collaboratively planning and carrying out investigations.

    Crosscutting Concepts - Science Centers

Science centers that focus on the 7 crosscutting concepts are included in each unit. Students explore cause and effect relationships, patterns in nature, stability and change, systems and system models, structure and function, scale and map making, sequencing events, and solving science related math word problems.

    Teacher Guides & Lesson Plans

Detailed, scripted lesson plans, step-by-step lab procedures with pictures, materials lists and management tips are all included in the teacher guide. Easily organize your materials using the included planning binder.

    Assessments

Exit ticket quizzes for each lesson, followed by a unit test, are included for each unit in two formats. Easily differentiate for your students using either the multiple choice, short written response, or fill in the blank format.

    Pacing

Each unit has is intended to be taught over approximately 3-5 weeks depending on the amount of time you have for science and the number of labs you choose to do. This pacing can be adjusted to meet your needs and schedule with a multitude of resources to extend the learning longer or shorten it by skipping some of the labs.

This is a money saving bundle. If purchased separately, these units cost $108. By purchasing the bundle, you receive an entire unit free.

    NGSS3-PS2-1
Plan and conduct an investigation to provide evidence of the effects of balanced and unbalanced forces on the motion of an object. Examples could include an unbalanced force on one side of a ball can make it start moving; and, balanced forces pushing on a box from both sides will not produce any motion at all. Assessment is limited to one variable at a time: number, size, or direction of forces. Assessment does not include quantitative force size, only qualitative and relative. Assessment is limited to gravity being addressed as a force that pulls objects down.
    NGSS3-ESS3-1
Make a claim about the merit of a design solution that reduces the impacts of a weather-related hazard. Examples of design solutions to weather-related hazards could include barriers to prevent flooding, wind resistant roofs, and lighting rods.
    NGSS3-LS4-1
Analyze and interpret data from fossils to provide evidence of the organisms and the environments in which they lived long ago. Examples of data could include type, size, and distributions of fossil organisms. Examples of fossils and environments could include marine fossils found on dry land, tropical plant fossils found in Arctic areas, and fossils of extinct organisms. Assessment does not include identification of specific fossils or present plants and animals. Assessment is limited to major fossil types and relative ages.
    NGSS3-5-ETS1-3
Plan and carry out fair tests in which variables are controlled and failure points are considered to identify aspects of a model or prototype that can be improved.
    NGSS3-ESS2-1
Represent data in tables and graphical displays to describe typical weather conditions expected during a particular season. Examples of data could include average temperature, precipitation, and wind direction. Assessment of graphical displays is limited to pictographs and bar graphs. Assessment does not include climate change.
