Description

Math Journal Prompts for each of the Grade 3 Common Core Standards! Math Journaling is a fabulous way to gain insight into your students’ understanding of mathematical concepts, their problem-solving strategies, and their ability to share their thought processes. Math Journals are a wonderful addition to ANY math program from grades K-12.

This set of Math Journal Prompts is aligned to the Grade 3 Common Core. What does that really mean? These journal prompts are first divided by content area (Measurement & Data, Operations & Algebraic Thinking, Number & Operations in Base 10, Number & Operations Fractions, and Geometry). Each content area is then separated by the individual standards and a series of prompts are provided to target each of those standards. Although meant for Grade 3, these prompts are great for enriching your high Second Graders or providing review and/or support for Fourth Graders.

PRINTABLE & DIGITAL: This resource now includes Digital Slides (perfect for Google Slides™, Google Drive™, OneDrive, & Seesaw). It also now includes individual pages for each prompt as well as a new guide to help find each prompt in its different versions.

  • 91 Photocopy-ready pages for each individual prompt
  • PDF with a link to your own copy of Digital Google Slides

Tell and write time to the nearest minute and measure time intervals in minutes. Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes, e.g., by representing the problem on a number line diagram.
Measure and estimate liquid volumes and masses of objects using standard units of grams (g), kilograms (kg), and liters (l). Add, subtract, multiply, or divide to solve one-step word problems involving masses or volumes that are given in the same units, e.g., by using drawings (such as a beaker with a measurement scale) to represent the problem.
Draw a scaled picture graph and a scaled bar graph to represent a data set with several categories. Solve one- and two-step “how many more” and “how many less” problems using information presented in scaled bar graphs. For example, draw a bar graph in which each square in the bar graph might represent 5 pets.
Generate measurement data by measuring lengths using rulers marked with halves and fourths of an inch. Show the data by making a line plot, where the horizontal scale is marked off in appropriate units-whole numbers, halves, or quarters.
Recognize area as an attribute of plane figures and understand concepts of area measurement.
