Description

This is a resource I created to support my 3rd graders in writing a compare and contrast essay. It starts with guided notes about each part of the essay and includes scaffolded paragraphs with sentence starters.

Once your two topics are decided, students can easily complete the rest of the essay. This is a great introduction to compare and contrast essays as well as explanatory writing.

This is intended for 3rd graders and includes 4 paragraphs: introduction, similarities, differences, and conclusion. This level of rigor was appropriate for my students as they are still developing writing stamina and understanding. This could also be used to support 2nd graders or 4th graders in their writing.

I created this to supplement Benchmark Advance's 3rd grade Unit 5 on Advancements in Technology. My students used this to compare and contrast Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison.

Consider using this resource as an introduction and planning document before students write their own final drafts.
