    Description

This BUNDLED set is truly DELUXE!! Please take a moment to view the "Preview" to find out why. You will see that along with "I Can" statements, I have emphasized relevant vocabulary words and added examples, strategies, explanations, and mini-exemplars to help children truly feel that they CAN achieve these expectations. I have also chosen an easy-to-read font and lively illustrations to make print-outs as 3rd-grade friendly as possible. Each poster is a full page to maximize your options. Choose to print 2 per page or 4 per page for smaller versions.

These standards posters include full-color and black-and-white versions. I recommend projecting full-color versions as you introduce lessons. Refer to them on your standards wall, word wall, or centers as you review concepts. Give children black-and-white versions. Ask them to highlight important concepts. Punch holes in them, and place them in binders or folders. Alternatively, use them as covers for each section of student notebooks.

The preview features the following standards:

    1. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.3.4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, distinguishing literal from nonliteral language.

I've included a clear example of this standard along with simple 3rd-grade level explanations.

    2. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.3.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.3.3.A Identify and know the meaning of the most common prefixes and derivational suffixes.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.3.3.B Decode words with common Latin suffixes.

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.3.3.C Decode multisyllable words.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.3.3.D Read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words.

I have simplified this standard and included clear examples of all aspects. Use the colorful examples as a starting point for in-depth lessons.

    3. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.3.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.3.2.A Introduce a topic and group related information together; include illustrations when useful to aiding comprehension.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.3.2.B Develop the topic with facts, definitions, and details.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.3.2.C Use linking words and phrases (e.g., also, another, and, more, but) to connect ideas within categories of information.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.3.2.D Provide a concluding statement or section.

I have included "I can" statements that simplify the standard without losing its meaning. I then introduced the hand as a kinesthetic tool to show the "main idea," "supporting details," and "wrap up." Finally, I included a high-level paragraph that incorporated the skills outlined in the standard.

    1. 3.OA.D.9 Identify arithmetic patterns (including patterns in the addition table or multiplication table), and explain them using properties of operations. For example, observe that 4 times a number is always even, and explain why 4 times a number can be decomposed into two equal addends.

For this standard, I included examples of high-level explanations using a hundreds chart, an addition chart, and a multiplication chart.

    3. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.MD.A.2

Measure and estimate liquid volumes and masses of objects using standard units of grams (g), kilograms (kg), and liters (l). Add, subtract, multiply, or divide to solve one-step word problems involving masses or volumes that are given in the same units, e.g., by using drawings (such as a beaker with a measurement scale) to represent the problem.

I included a poster showing illustrations of each measurement in this preview. The product contains an example of an equation as well.
