What educators are saying

A great activity which covers a range of Kindergarten Math skills including 3D shape, basic addition, counting, writing numbers etc. My students enjoyed building the things shown and completing the task cards. It was an engaging Math group activity.
I used this as a Maths group activity when we were doing our shape topic. The children enjoyed it and were engaged.

Description

There are 15 construction cards included in this set and children will love the challenge of building the various items: towers, bridges, robot, car, train, rocket etc. After making the item, the student must count how many of each 3D shape they used and write the number. Then they can add the total to find out 'how many blocks they used altogether' to build their item.

This would make an ideal Maths activity station/Math centre for a Kindergarten to Grade 1 class. There are varying levels of difficulty. This is an excellent task to develop:

  • Fine-motor skills
  • Problem solving and reasoning skills
  • Hand-eye co-ordination
  • Language development
  • Mathematical understanding: geometry (3D shape), counting, addition, etc.
  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths)

Print the 8 pages in colour. Cut into individual cards (you may prefer to laminate first).

NOW AVAILABLE IN 2 FORMATS – A4 SIZE and US LETTER SIZE (8.5” x11”).

PDF’s in both sizes are included when you purchase this product.

DIGITAL VERSION AVAILABLE:

3D Shape BOOM CARDS Kindergarten – Sort, count and add (up to 14) DIGITAL TASK

Children may enjoy an alternate version where they use task cards to build various items using wooden blocks. Due to popular demand I have created 6 additional sets of construction challenge cards: Set 1, Set 2, Set 3, Set 4, Set 5, Set 6.

In addition, you can purchase a BUNDLE of all 7 sets which includes 105 cards to keep your students entertained in the block center all year long!!!

In addition, I have created cards for NATURAL Wooden Blocks. There are 3 levels: BASIC, INTERMEDIATE, CHALLENGING or a BUNDLE of all 3 sets.

You will also love my LINCOLN LOGS and WOODEN BLOCKS Construction Challenge Cards for K-2

Thank you and I hope you enjoy this activity

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects).
Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect counting to cardinality.
When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object.
Understand that the last number name said tells the number of objects counted. The number of objects is the same regardless of their arrangement or the order in which they were counted.
Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientations or overall size.
