2nd or 3rd Grade 10 Days/2 Weeks Emergency Sub Plans - Printables and Digital

These NO PREP sub plans come in two versions - digital Google Slides for paperless distance learning, and just-hit-print printable paper copies!

Not getting out of bed for a while, or have a sudden situation come up? Just hit print or send on these 10 sets of no-prep emergency sub plans, and don’t worry about planning for your 2nd or 3rd graders for two weeks! Everything you will need for a full day (or ten!) of activities in your classroom without the need to prep a million things. Great for a long-term absence if you know you'll be gone several days or if you need sub plans for a week or two. All your students will need (outside of the usual scissors/glue/colors/etc.) are paper clips to use as spinners and something to use as playing pieces for a couple of games.

These sub plans are probably best for 1st semester third graders or 2nd semester 2nd graders, based off of feedback I’ve received. I prepared them assuming that a sub would go through each lesson with students, rather than students doing everything totally independently.

Word of warning – these sub plans are very United States-centric. States, Fahrenheit, standard measurement, notable Americans, etc. etc…. They probably aren’t going to be super relevant to kids outside of ‘Murica.

Each day of sub plans contains the following…

-Grammar: sentence types – exclamatory, declarative, interrogative, and imperative. Students will practice writing each type of sentence, as well as editing their work.

-Writing: Students will brainstorm and write their own autobiographies, with a guided activity for each day. Includes prewriting, editing, and final copy activities.

-Spelling: Students will practice using r-influenced/r-controlled vowels ur/ir/er and or/ore/ar.

-Social Studies/Geography: States studies – students will learn about 30 different states over ten days - the states with the largest and smallest populations, largest and smallest areas, the “oldest” and “newest” states, the hottest and coldest states, and the states with the highest and lowest peak elevations using short readings as well as a find-on-the-map activity.

-Data collection/analysis – Students will collect and analyze data on bar graphs, pictographs, Venn diagrams, line plots, and with tally marks.

-Math – four total activities each day - two activities per day, based around 2 digit addition and subtraction with regrouping, and two activities based around multiplication and division. One activity for both subjects each day is more straight forward practice, and the other daily activity is more of a game/fun practice page.

-Reading – includes response sheets that can be used for any book your students might be currently working on, either that they read themselves or with a read aloud. Students will practice finding important details, summarizing, making connections, making predictions, visualizing/illustrating, asking questions, clarifying/quizzing, making inferences, defining words in context, and using schema.

-Reading passages – Includes short, two page biographies of notables Americans - Abraham Lincoln, Amelia Earhart, Cesar Chavez, Harriet Tubman, Thurgood Marshall, Helen Keller, Barack Obama, Sacagawea, Neil Armstrong, and Susan B. Anthony.

-Art Project – a daily, paper-based cutting, folding, gluing, and coloring activity.

-Homework – 2 pages each day to either support the day’s concepts, or as additional in-class practice.

-Information for the sub – includes student roster, instruction sheet, and schedule sheet. Comes as fillable PDFs and paperless Google Slides for digital distance learning.
