2nd Grade Geometry Flipchart Activities

These flipchart activities were designed to correspond to the following 2nd Grade Math Common Core Standards:

CCS 2.G.1
Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces. Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.

CCS 2.G.2
Partition a rectangle into rows and columns of same-size squares and count to find the total number of them.

There are three different activities:

1) Sort Shapes by Number of Angles
Students will sort the shapes at the bottom of the page based on the number of angles. Students will drag the shape into the correct box. If student is correct, they will hear a "ping" sound. If not, the shape will return to the original position.

2) Feed the Blob a Specific Shape
Students will feed the "Blob" with the shape on the sign. Students will drag the shape into the blob's mouth. If it is the correct shape, you should hear a "burp". If it is not the correct shape, the shape will snap back to the original position.

3) How many Equal Squares, Rows, and Columns?
Students will cover up the rectangle on the page with the blue squares. Students will figure out how many squares it will take to cover up the rectangle, then figure out the number of columns and rows.

Althought this was designed for second grade, it could be used as review in grades 3-5.
