What educators are saying

This compliments the Saskatchewan Science 5 curriculum very well. It is good for your lower level readers.
This resource was a fun way to cover the standards required for 2nd grade. I loved the clip art and fonts.

    Description

Solids, Liquids, Gases, {Matter} reader BUNDLE for second grade is a great way to get decodable texts in the hands of 2nd graders while focusing on science topics. This little bundle goes beyond decoding and focuses on science topics and better understanding matter.

Three readers are included in this bundle:

Book 1: Solids, liquids and gases reader for second grade explains the basic concepts of matter in a way that children can better understand. Children often hear terms that don't have meaning for them. Giving them a better understanding of what matter is gives them a frame of reference.

Book 2: Solids, Liquids, Gases, and Temperature: Physical Changes in Matter explains the impact of temperature on states of matter. Children often hear terms that don't have meaning for them. Parts of the book have the language of an informational text {factual}. If you're currently working on an informational reading/writing unit of study, this little text is a nice connection. Idea: Students can research additional information and add "Wow Facts" or "Did You Know" bubbles to certain pages in the book.

Directions: Cut the pages in half, assemble, and staple. Allow some time for coloring and illustrating. Use during shared reading or small group reading instruction. Teach the key vocabulary and let the children write definitions in their own words and/or draw pictures to show the meaning of the words. Also, allow students to ask and answer questions about the text. Reread individually or in pairs.
