This 2nd grade math standards-based Partitioning Shapes unit focuses on the Common Core math standards 2.G.3. This asks students to partition rectangles, squares, and circles into halves, thirds, and fourths, as well as tell the difference between equal and unequal shares. There are daily lesson plans, whole group activities, partner practice activities, MATH group centers, exit slips, and assessments.

Partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, thirds, half of, a third of, etc., and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths. Recognize that equal shares of identical wholes need not have the same shape.
