What educators are saying

This was a fantastic lesson to use with my class! I teach self-contained middle school LLD and this really helped my students understand the difference between the 2D shapes and polygons. Thank you!!!
Great resource for helping my students learn and understand the shape prefixes! I was able to shrink these down to create desk helpers for my resource and EL students. THANK YOU!!

Description

These 2D shapes posters will help your students identify and describe two-dimensional geometric shapes. Each anchor chart has vocabulary words with prefixes and other helpful hints that are color coded to grab your student’s attention, and give them visual clues to remember key attributes of each shape. Great for a 2D shapes geometry word wall highlighting polygon attributes! Student guided notes pages are perfect for math journals or student booklets.

The two-dimensional vocabulary posters are color coded to help students visually remember key elements of the shapes. If possible, it is best to print in color. The color with no border will save you a little ink. If you can’t print in color, a black and white option has been included for you.

Hang the 2D Shape Posters at the front of the room as you introduce the shapes and refer to them often during instruction.

The student guided notes that go with the 16 posters are written in a fill in the blank format, so students can fill in the information while you are introducing the geometric shapes. There are images of each shape that go along with the posters. Answer keys for all notes are included.

These 2D Shapes student notes pages print two to a page to save on paper. Just make one cut vertically and they are ready to hand out to your students. Glue them in a math journal, or staple on the side to make a 2D Shapes Student Booklet.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces. Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.
Understand that shapes in different categories (e.g., rhombuses, rectangles, and others) may share attributes (e.g., having four sides), and that the shared attributes can define a larger category (e.g., quadrilaterals). Recognize rhombuses, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals, and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories.
Recognize a line of symmetry for a two-dimensional figure as a line across the figure such that the figure can be folded along the line into matching parts. Identify line-symmetric figures and draw lines of symmetry.
Understand that attributes belonging to a category of two-dimensional figures also belong to all subcategories of that category. For example, all rectangles have four right angles and squares are rectangles, so all squares have four right angles.
Classify two-dimensional figures in a hierarchy based on properties.
