Ben Franklin was a very smart and important man who helped America become its own country a long time ago. He was born way back in 1706, which is more than 300 years ago!

Ben loved to learn and read books. Even though he didn't go to school for very long, he taught himself lots of things by reading. When he grew up, he started his own newspaper and wrote lots of articles. He even invented a funny character named "Poor Richard" who said smart and funny things in a book that Ben made every year.

Ben Franklin also liked to invent things. He made the lightning rod, which helps keep houses safe from lightning. He also invented bifocals, which are special glasses that help people see better if their eyes aren't so good.

Besides being smart and inventive, Ben Franklin helped the United States in big ways. He was one of the people who helped write important papers like the Declaration of Independence, which said America wanted to be free from England.

Ben also liked to help people get along and work together. He was very good at talking and making friends, which helped him when he went to other countries like France to get help for America during the big fight for independence, called the Revolutionary War.

Ben Franklin did so many different things and helped a lot of people. He was really one of the most amazing people in American history!
