    Guided Reading Assessment Tool for Levels A - T {Save Instructional Time!}

    As teachers, we want to get reading groups up and running as quickly as we can! But, first we need to know the approximate guided reading levels of each of our students so we can effectively create these groups.

    We need a quick, effective way to determine each child's ideal Guided Reading Placement Level.

    There are a couple widely-used tools available - but they are expensive and very time consuming. Using those tools, we sometimes have to complete several running records to find the instructional level of a single student.

    It's part of a bigger issue - the struggle to balance having enough data to differentiate effectively while also preserving that precious instructional time!

    Parent Handouts for Supporting Students at Guided Reading Levels A - P

    The parent handouts educate parents about the best ways to help their child at the specific level he/she is reading at. This packet includes a separate Parent Handout for each Guided Reading Level from A - P.

    I find that sending a handout home in my guided reading bags each time a child transitions to a new reading level helps parents more effectively support their child's learning.

    Includes ideas for helping students:

    -Develop voice to print match

    -Use a combination of initial sounds, picture clues and meaning

    -Develop sight word knowledge

    -Engage in shared writing at home

    -Learn to monitor their own reading

    -Make connections to stories

    -Work with cut-up sentences

    -Read smoothly and with expression

    -Find interesting details

    -Recognize and use word chunks

    -Think deeply about informational and literary texts
