The following Common Core Standards are addressed:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1OA.D.7 Determine the unknown whole number in an addition or subtraction equation relating three whole numbers. For example, determine the number that completes the following equations: 8 + ? = 11, 5 = _ - 3.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.OA.C.6 Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.OA.B.2 Add and subtract within 20. Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies.2 By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
On each page, there are 3 columns of problems. These sheets are designed to make it easy to differentiate. Upon the teacher’s directions, a child can fold the 3rd column over and “complete” the task by answering the questions in the first two columns.
I like to chorally read the problems and have kids check their own work. To help kids feel successful, I encourage each child to look for the box (column) in which he/she scored his/her personal best. This allows a lot of kids to find a section in which they got them all right!
On each page, one small piece of clip art is shown. The graphics appear in color, but print well in black and white. If a child finishes early, I give him/her the following options:
★ On the back, write a word problem related to one of the subtraction facts.
★ Take a look at the clip art and use it to write an encouraging statement on the back of the paper. For instance, a child might write, “Be a superhero – practice math facts!” (I do lots of modeling first. . . )
Thanks for stopping by and taking a look!
Sincerely, Anne Gardner (NBCT)
