What educators are saying

These are a low prep item that I was able to print and use. I love how students need to identify the errors-- kids love pointing out where things are wrong and helps with critical thinking.

Description

1st-3rd Grade Addition and Subtraction Extension Project: Be The Teacher

This product was designed for advanced/gifted students to explore the topic of addition and subtraction at a deeper thinking level. The project is geared toward younger grades as it has much repetition to allow for student independence.

**Great for small group extensions, seat work, independent work for early finishers, and activities for students who demonstrate mastery on pretest.

Students will have the opportunity to "Be The Teacher!" through 4 different types of activities:

-Check the Work - Students will perform error analysis of addition and subtraction strategies (4 differentiated challenges)

- Missing Numbers - Students will explore word problems that do not yet have the numbers, allowing them to problem solve what is missing, what is needed, and possible solutions

- Create the Question - Students will create word problems using given classroom data. They will also create a detailed answer key to show how to solve the problems

- Trick the Teacher - Students will use critical thinking to build balanced equations using digits only once

Add within 100, including adding a two-digit number and a one-digit number, and adding a two-digit number and a multiple of 10, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used. Understand that in adding two-digit numbers, one adds tens and tens, ones and ones; and sometimes it is necessary to compose a ten.
Subtract multiples of 10 in the range 10-90 from multiples of 10 in the range 10-90 (positive or zero differences), using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used.
Fluently add and subtract within 100 using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.
