What educators are saying

This is such a fantastic resource!! I use this with my grade 4 and 5 students with learning disabilities. We start each Resource Room time doing our problem of the day. We also utilize the CUBES strategy with this resource. Excellent resource!! I highly recommend it!! Thank you!
I loved using this for my class as a pre-assessment. I used it a lot at the start of the year to see where my students were at. I also used it as morning work while getting ready for the day.

Description

Daily Math Word Problems are PERFECT for students in grades 3-4 (or advanced 2nd) to review and practice grade level math skills. These are great for MORNING WORK and SPIRAL REVIEW of simple problem solving skills. Don't spend unnecessary time creating your own - these are done for you!

Each page is designed with 2 word problems, space to draw a picture, and a grid for lining up numbers to solve problems. Students also have to identify which operation to use when solving the problem, which is a key skill that students need to think about before solving word problems. There are 180 word problems included - one for each day of school! An answer key is included as well.

Many teachers have had success with using these word problems with older students who had IEP goals in math.

Skills include:

  • addition
  • subtraction
  • simple multiplication and division
  • elapsed time
  • measurement.

Most problems are 1 step, but there are some 2 step problems mixed in.

Other uses:

  • Bell work / Morning work
  • Cut to create task cards (check preview for specifics)
  • Math centers
  • Homework
  • Solve the Room partner activity (similar to Write the Room)
  • Exit slips / Ticket out the Door
  • Test Prep

With so many uses, you can't go wrong!

Tell and write time to the nearest minute and measure time intervals in minutes. Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes, e.g., by representing the problem on a number line diagram.
Measure and estimate liquid volumes and masses of objects using standard units of grams (g), kilograms (kg), and liters (l). Add, subtract, multiply, or divide to solve one-step word problems involving masses or volumes that are given in the same units, e.g., by using drawings (such as a beaker with a measurement scale) to represent the problem.
Know relative sizes of measurement units within one system of units including km, m, cm; kg, g; lb, oz.; l, ml; hr, min, sec. Within a single system of measurement, express measurements in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Record measurement equivalents in a two-column table. For example, know that 1 ft is 12 times as long as 1 in. Express the length of a 4 ft snake as 48 in. Generate a conversion table for feet and inches listing the number pairs (1, 12), (2, 24), (3, 36),...
Use the four operations to solve word problems involving distances, intervals of time, liquid volumes, masses of objects, and money, including problems involving simple fractions or decimals, and problems that require expressing measurements given in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Represent measurement quantities using diagrams such as number line diagrams that feature a measurement scale.
Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.
