What educators are saying

We have a little boy with autism at church. We used this resource to help develop a communication tool he could use while at church and at home.
I highly recommend this resource! This was an engaging activity. I've used this with several students and they all loved it!

Description

These photo communication cards are designed to aid communication and speech development in non-verbal children or those with a speech delay. They are most commonly used with autistic children and/or those with learning difficulties. These can be used as a sole means of communication or as part of a speech therapy programme.

Our cards are different to the usual picture communication cards as I have used real world photographic images rather than clip-art style pictures; I have found from experience that autistic children respond much better to photographic images. I have spent many long hours putting together this collection of photo cards and hope they will be put to good use by many.

The idea behind this communication system is that you can make your own cards at home or at school and easily replace any that become damaged with lots of use. Ideally, the cards would be printed, laminated and velcroed, before being placed somewhere that the child would have easy access to communication at all times.

The last image in this listing show pages from a food folder I made at home. This is brilliant for keeping in the kitchen and allows the child to easily communicate what they would like to eat or drink.

The simple visual nature of these cards make them ideal for use as part of a learning in situations other than speech/communication development. I have found them very useful in games such as picture matching, counting, reading, singing and many others.

This listing is for the full collection of over 1500 photo communication cards, each included as a separate JPEG image. You will also receive grid files in .doc format (Microsoft Word), that allow you to easily fill a standard sized document with your chosen cards for easy printing.

Because this is a such a large collection of images, you will receive this collection as a compressed .zip file, so you will need unzipping software to be able to access the images.

If you would prefer to buy communications cards for a particular subject (rather than purchase the full collection) then please see my other listings for this option.

All of my items are learning aids that I have created myself based on autistic children being visual learners. Most children learn and practice skills through play, but a many autistic children need practice and prompting to do so. All of the games that I design are meant for the child to use with the help of an adult. There are lots of wonderful resources to help children develop but some autistic children can find the colours and quantity of objects too overwhelming and many do not know what to do with it all, for this reason the games are kept simple and information is presented clearly and visually.
