Description

100th Day of School CSI Digital Math Mystery GAME with lots of graphics and a computer game-like experience. Your students can play the Case of The 100 Missing Treats in a digital game format. This resource is designed to be played on any device with an Internet connection (please read the technical tips section and try the free clue below to see if it works for you).

Mystery meets an escape room with this style of game! Your students will need to discover passwords at the end of each clue in order to access the next clue. Your Teacher copy will contain all links and passwords.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Implementation Suggestion: Turn it into a competition to see who can solve the mystery first in your classroom OR set a timer with a limit that everyone must aim to beat to solve the case and save Christmas! (Or assign a single clue at a time if you prefer to break it up into smaller chunks).

MATH SKILLS:

There are THREE LEVELS of the game to choose to play! The Mystery outcome is different at the end of each level, and the clues are mostly different too. So you can choose to play all levels and the culprit will be different in each.

LEVEL 1

  • Clue 1: Adding multiples of 10 and 100
  • Clue 2: Add or subtract 100 from a triple-digit number
  • Clue 3: Make 100 (easy level) - Missing Addends
  • Clue 4: Subtracting multiples of 10 and 100
  • Clue 5: Add or subtract 100 from a triple-digit number
  • Bonus ending round - Adding multiples of 10 and 100

LEVEL 2

  • Clue 1: Make 100 (Missing Addend Equations)
  • Clue 2: Make 100 (Missing Subtrahend Equations)
  • Clue 3: Rounding to the nearest 10 or 100
  • Clue 4: Multiplication Facts Mix (Facts range from 2-12)
  • Clue 5: Number Patterns (Missing Number in a sequence, no rule given. Adding and subtracting, increasing or decreasing type of patterns.)
  • Bonus ending round - subtracting numbers from 100

LEVEL 3

  • Clue 1: Missing Addends and Subtrahends to make 100
  • Clue 2: Multiplying numbers ending in zeroes by single-digit numbers
  • Clue 3: Dividing Numbers ending in zeroes by 10 and 100
  • Clue 4: Convert Decimals to Percents
  • Clue 5: Convert Fractions to Percents
  • Bonus ending round - work out the percent of a number e.g. what is 50% of 70? 100% of 95? 25% of 80?

What's the same from the paper math mystery?

  • The video hook intro
  • Correct answering of math questions to unlock clues
  • Eliminating suspects in clues 1-4

What's different from the paper math mystery?

  • No printing or photocopying required
  • The math questions are different
  • Lots of graphics
  • The answers are presented in multiple choices for students to search and find answers.
  • Clicking/tapping on the correct answer unlocks the letter and places it into the boxes for you instead of manual input.
  • Cannot clue jump, completion of each clue unlocks access to the next clue.
  • After clue 5, your student will be required to select the culprit!
  • A Bonus math round will begin after selecting the culprit.
  • A short video clip at the end of the game.
  • The mystery solution is different from the paper version. There is a different culprit in each level of the mystery.
  • Cannot clue swap. Clues are different and the culprit is different at the end of each level.

What you will need:

  • A stable Internet connection
  • The ‘digital keys’ provided in this download. There is a 'Teacher Copy' provided with all passwords in the PDF file. The 'Student Copy' is provided in a separate PDF document for easy sharing. The key links are provided in this student document, however, students must complete the previous clue to discover the password to unlock the next clue.
  • Computer access – this can be used on any device with an internet connection and browser e.g. PCs, Macs, IWB, and tablet devices.
  • Optional: print the tracking and recording page provided in this download. However, this is easily substituted with a workbook or plain piece of paper if you prefer to skip printing or photocopying this page.
  • To share the game is by sharing either the links or the pdf files provided in the download. You may need to do this by uploading it to a classroom shared drive or by email. However, I've also included QR codes and Google Slides as another way to share the links.

Implementation suggestions

There are many ways to use this resource, some include:

  • Complete as a whole class on your Interactive Whiteboard. Students take it in turns to answer the questions.
  • Assign to your students to complete independently or in pairs on a device. This could be something they do as an early finisher task, during your math block, or for homework.

Sharing with Students

There are a few ways you may choose to share the game with your students:

  • The student pages with clickable links are available in EASEL by TPT. When opening Easel, choose which math level you want to keep (top corner marked L1, L2, and L3 for math levels) and delete the other level pages before assigning the game to your students.
  • Assign the Google Slide link provided via Google Classroom
  • Email the game links to your students.
  • Use the QR codes provided for students to scan. These can be printed or shown on the IWB for students to scan from.
  • Do as a class on the IWB with your access to the links only.
  • If all of the above fails, or if you need help, you can send an email to me and we can try to resolve the issue.

>>> Clue Access <<<

After completing a clue, your students will need to write down the password to unlock the next clue link.

Math Level Access

After downloading the product, open the ZIP folder. Inside there are three folders, each labeled with a 'level.' Open the folder of the level you wish your students to work on and use the files with links provided in that folder.

Technical

  • To PAUSE the game it will need to be kept open in the browser. Closing the game will require starting again from the top the clue it was closed on.
  • I have tested this game many times, but a glitch or two may have been missed. Please let me know if you come across any problems and I will fix. Also please contact me with any other technical difficulties. My email is jjresourcecreations@gmail.com
  • To prevent technical issues, I recommend clearing your browsing history and ensuring that cookies are enabled. Also please check your settings as some school computers require permission given to access to links.
