Description

Your students will love practicing 10 more and 10 less with these twelve engaging hands-on activities. Students will use manipulatives such as cubes, number lines, hundreds charts and place value blocks to build a concrete understanding of this tricky math concept!

Each activity includes a detailed instruction sheet for teachers. You will be able to quickly gather the needed materials and know how to complete the lesson. Activities come in both a full-color and black and white version, so you can choose what works best for your classroom! Print and put in dry-erase pockets or laminate and use in centers.

There are 12 ten more and ten less activities included to easily differentiate your instruction:

  • Snail Mail- Students start with a given number and count on or back as they push counters to find 10 more or 10 less.
  • Counting Fingers- Fingers are a great math tool! Students start with a given number and orally count on with the pictures of fingers. These mats come in a variety of skin tones for your students!
  • Ten More/Ten Less Cubes- Students use cubes as they practice counting on or back.
  • Honey Bear- This game makes a great math center! Children write the next 10 numbers on the fun mat!
  • Hamster Tools- Another great math center. Students start with a number card and write the previous 10 numbers.
  • Number Lines- Students practice writing numbers forwards and backwards on a number line. You also receive a number line to 120 that students can assemble.
  • Number Line #2- This activity includes counting forwards and backwards at the same time as students begin to put this skill together more fluently.
  • 120 Charts- Students use a 120 chart to find 10 more and 10 less. They begin to see how we can look up a row to find 10 less and down a row to find 10 more.
  • Place Value Pails- Students use their place value skills to see how we can add and subtract a "ten" to find the numbers.
  • Bingo- Students are now ready to work on this skill mentally! There is a ten less and a ten more version of this game with 6 bingo cards for each game.
  • Hero Numbers- Students record the 10 more number above and the 10 less number below the target number. The colored version makes a great learning center! 16 colored cards included.
  • Task Cards- 3 sets (1 for 10 less, 1 for 10 more, 1 mixed) that can be used for scoot, write the room, or a math station. Each set has matching recording sheets for each type of activity. Answer keys are included.

Your students will love how fun the activities are, while you will love the ease of implementing the activities with a few basic classroom supplies!
