I like to use starter questions to begin class. The students research and record their answers in their notebook, and I ask for volunteers to share their findings. I like to mostly use questions that make them think, rather than recall information

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have logged twenty-eight wonderful years in public education teaching various science subjects from grades 6 through 12. I currently teach at an alternative school for at-risk youth and teen moms. It's a great place to teach - classes are small and we can really get to know our students. I get to be a facilitator and do a lot of up-close and personal teaching. This is why I became a teacher! I love what I do! I love to share lessons and see what others are doing in the classroom. That's why I love TpT. It has expanded my knowledge base and reenergized my career!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a facilitator. I work one-on-one with the students because each of our students have an individualized plan. We tailor the curriculum to meet their unique needs. My philosophy is: find their strengths and build on them; find their weaknesses and strengthen them. I am so proud to be a teacher. What a wonderful profession - being able to foster a love of learning.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, One of three State of Nevada finalists, 1992.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

B.A., Biology/Chemistry Southern Illinois University M.S., Biology, Southern Illinois University Teaching credential - University of Nevada, Reno
