Jillian Starr

I have been a classroom teacher for 12 years. I am currently a 2nd grade teacher, but prior to that I taught 1st and 3rd grade. Before classroom teaching, I worked in a Learning Center for students grades K-6. Every grade brings something special, but teaching is definitely the best job in the world! (I'm only slightly biased!)

I currently teach second grade in an inclusion classroom with a high population of English Language Learners. My teaching style reflects my students learning styles (and my own). It is very visual and multi-sensory, as well as routine and center based. The majority of my teaching happens in small group, and I work hard to meet students at their "just right level" without compromising high expectations. I am all for learning through discovery and allowing students time to explore materials and their own questions. Most of all, my teaching style aims to create a safe learning environment for all students to feel comfortable taking social and academic risks.
