Description

Water bottle flipping- ratio, percent, measurement, data collection and graphing! The kids love bottle flipping and this product will let you bring bottle flipping into your classroom in an educational way!

Students will make predictions about the ideal water level in their water bottle that will result int he most successful flips. They will then record data about their bottle and conduct a variety of trials using different water levels to test their success with flipping their bottle at different fill levels.

On Day 1- students all use the same type of bottle and test different water amounts as they look for the fill level that gives them themes success. They then analyze and graph their data, and draw conclusions after looking at the date of the whole class.

On Day 2- students choose from a variety of different size/shape water bottles and test to see if the same water fill level (usually 1/3 full) results in the most successful flips as it did on day 1. They then analyze, graph and compare the date.

Bonus activities for an optional Day 3 or outside of class activities are included.

This product incorporates:
RATIO (what water to air ratio produces the best results?)

PERCENTS (what percent of your flips were successful?)

MEASUREMENT(use graduated cylinders, liquid measuring cups or other measurement tools to accurately measure water to fill water bottles)

GRAPHING (record data on a bar graph, double bar graph, line graph and double line graph)

PREDICTIONS & CONCLUSIONS (students will make predictions based on prior knowledge and draw conclusions that analyze their data and a complication of whole class data)

Who knew bottle flipping could be a fun AND highly educational activity full of real applications of math skills!

****I have included pages with measurement terms (cm, oz, mL,...) and duplicates of these same pages without the measurement terms so you can use whatever measurement system/terms fit your needs.
