Description

This set of guided notes includes 7 unique lessons on transformations. One of the lessons (the one on mapping figures) has two different versions so that you can differentiate and provide the most appropriate content for your students’ ability levels. This product includes 8 sets of guided notes with and without QR codes, answer keys for each set of guided notes, and teacher instructions with 2 different unit plan pacing options.

These guided notes were designed for a 10th grade Geometry course, but they could certainly be used with a middle school math class as well. The lessons are based on the common core standards. Please look carefully at the preview file before purchasing to make sure that the content is appropriate for your students.

These topics are included: Translations, Reflections, Rotations About the Origin, Rotations About Points Other than the Origin, Mapping Figures (Onto Other Figures and Onto Themselves), Dilations With the Origin as the Center, and Dilations With Other Points as the Center.

QR Codes and Video Notes: This document includes 8 sets of guided notes. The guided notes include a version with QR Codes and a version without the QR Codes. If a student scans the QR code with his phone, his phone will show a page from my website that includes a video of the entire lesson taught by me. The purpose of the QR code is to give students the ability to watch the lesson at home.

Please Note: The videos on my website are free and can be accessed by anyone in the world. If you would like to preview the videos before purchasing this product, please visit www.mathsunshine.weebly.com.

Represent transformations in the plane using, e.g., transparencies and geometry software; describe transformations as functions that take points in the plane as inputs and give other points as outputs. Compare transformations that preserve distance and angle to those that do not (e.g., translation versus horizontal stretch).
Given a rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, or regular polygon, describe the rotations and reflections that carry it onto itself.
Develop definitions of rotations, reflections, and translations in terms of angles, circles, perpendicular lines, parallel lines, and line segments.
Given a geometric figure and a rotation, reflection, or translation, draw the transformed figure using, e.g., graph paper, tracing paper, or geometry software. Specify a sequence of transformations that will carry a given figure onto another.
Verify experimentally the properties of dilations given by a center and a scale factor:
