Description

This lesson on the short story “The Lady or The Tiger” by Frank Stockton can be printed, used digitally, or a combination of the two. All resources are Google Drive resources (primarily Google Docs unless otherwise noted as Google Slides, Google Forms, etc.). These resources include support for struggling readers and writers and/or special education students, such as an adapted text, chunked questions, graphic organizers and suggested transitions for writing.

This lesson focuses on the skills of plot, conflict, and character. The included simulation can be done before, during or after reading to further students' understanding of the king's arena. Students will be "accused" of a crime and have the chance to select the door that will lead to their punishment or reward. The simulation activity can lead into a discussion of the differences between the American justice system and the king's arena.
