The American Dream & The American Identity: What is an American?

This common core aligned unit is an introduction to the essential question: American Identity: What is an American? It is a rhetorical reading and writing unit that asks students to take a stand on the idea of the American Identity and write their way to deeper understanding. The unit asks students to synthesize six different texts to allow students to evaluate the ideas of others as they survey their own. Students will do close reading activities with six different texts and will also use text dependent questions, but will also be asked to think beyond the texts and into a broader conversation.
