What educators are saying

Such a wonderful resource for teaching text structure! I also love that it is colorful, so it is engaging for students!
This was a great resource to use to help fill the gaps in learning for our 4th graders. I used this for intervention. Thank you!

Description

Text structure of nonfiction is a difficult skill for students to understand. Let's help them by seeing different text structures side by side to analyze and understand, in these fun hands-on text structure activities! Both print and digital version is included in this resource!

There are 4 pages of topics in these text structure activities:

  • dolphins
  • baseball
  • insects
  • weather

Each page has 5 short nonfiction passages about the topic using one of the nonfiction text structures: cause/effect, sequence, compare/contrast, descriptive, and problem/solution.

Students choose the nonfiction text structure and prove it by identifying evidence in the text with a specific color of crayon. They take it a step further by choosing one passage and filling in a graphic organizer with the information from the text.

✏️ These text structure activities also include 5 passages allowing students the opportunity to understand how knowing the nonfiction text structure helps with their comprehension. The three passages are paired with a graphic organizer and 4 comprehension questions.

There is even an assessment included!!

These nonfiction text structure activities are perfect for small groups, centers, or whole-group instruction. The graphic organizers are provided as well! Download the preview to get a better look at the activity.

Digital versions are also included! This includes a Google Slides version, PowerPoint version, and jpeg images for See-Saw!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️  The Elementary Element:  "This was a wonderful resource to help my students understand not only what text structures were, but WHY the author used that specific structure. This was an amazing purchase!"

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️  Janneth M.:  "My students enjoyed the various ways to practice text structure. I copied the graphic organizers half the size and we glued these in our reading notebook in order to reference back. I used the stories to fill in the graphic organizers together and have a way to use our notes."
