Description
St. Patrick's Day
Compare and Contrast
Firsthand vs. Secondhand Accounts
Google Slides Ready!
This is a compare and contrast lesson designed for third, fourth and fifth grade. I wanted a lesson that aligned to our standards but was St. Patrick's Day themed. We have been studying firsthand and secondhand accounts, so this was perfect!
You get two articles: one is a firsthand account describing a leprechaun sighting. The second one is a secondhand account telling about the history of leprechauns. Students will read each text and take notes on their two column notes graphic organizer. Then they will fill out either a Venn diagram or a double bubble thinking map to compare and contrast the two articles. Finally, they will write an essay comparing and contrasting the two articles.
I included anchor charts to help you teach the difference between firsthand and secondhand accounts.
I also included the digital version so you can assign it on Google Classroom or another online platform.
