Spanish Family UNIT La Familia Differentiated Instruction great for DIY STATIONS

Spanish LA FAMILIA activities! Students learn and practice La Familia with a STATIONS / CENTERS / Differentiated Instruction set up. These supplemental activities cover: reading, writing, speaking & listening skills. Lots of individual and partner practice! 37 student pages to choose from!

Depending on your class sizes and how long your class periods are, if used as a Stations / Centers unit, this resource can last anywhere between 3 - 5 days.

3 days - If just using to review vocabulary and concepts

5 days - Up to five days (possibly more) if you include in class time for the project.

This packet includes hands-on, interactive, communicative, spelling practice, reading comprehension, artistic and thought-provoking lessons.

Station 1: El Vocabulario

• 2 vocabulary lists to choose from (Spanish only, and English/Spanish)
• 8 lessons to choose from to practice vocabulary

Station 2: Preguntas

• 4 partner activities to choose from to practice asking and answering questions
• Guided speaking practice with supports in the forms of written questions for students to read.
• Guided writing practice, using the supports to create their own questions to ask a classmate.
• Students write unique questions to gather information.
• Students provide and obtain information from one another.

Station 3: La Lectura

• 3 reading comprehension activities
• Lesson 1: Students read short texts with supporting pictures and answer comprehension questions about 3 different families.
• Lesson 2: Students read a longer text with vocabulary supports for clarity. Students answer comprehension questions.
• Lesson 3: Students read a retell of a fairytale with vocabulary supports for clarity. Students answer comprehension questions.

Station 4: Proyectos

• 4 projects to choose from.
• Mi famlilia: Presentational speaking activity in which students use a family photo and tell a classmate about their family (or a famous family from real life, or their favorite book, movie, or videogame family).
• Cultura en la Cocina: Students reflect on food, family and culture by cooking an authentic meal from a Spanish-speaking country for their household and answering reflection questions at the end of the process.
• Árbol Genealógico: Students explore their creativity and family dynamics by creating a family tree. Students can create a family tree based off of their own families, or a famous family from real life, or their favorite book, movie or videogame characters.
• Feliz cumpleaños: Party invitation Students create a product. Students follow the instructions to create a birthday invitation to a family member’s birthday party.

Suggestions for use:

• You can use every activity in this packet with your students. Everything necessary to learn family vocabulary is included!
• Pick and choose which activities make sense for you to use in your classroom. Use some of these activities to supplement your curriculum.
• Set up STATIONS / CENTERS for a differentiated learning experience for your students! (Instructions for set up included!)
