What is Simply Social Studies all about?
Simply Social Studies is a Social Studies curriculum that covers grade appropriate concepts and objectives for First Grade and Kindergarten.
What's included in this mini unit of Simply Social Studies?
This mini unit of Simply Social Studies includes detailed lesson plans with ELA and Math extensions & suggestions, book suggestions, craftivities, anchor chart ideas, materials list, two editable power points, printable lesson reviews/assessments, and MORE!
What objectives are covered in this unit of Simply Social Studies?
THis not-so-mini unit covers nine different holiday celebrations from around the world including history, culture, traditions, and celebrations. Students will compare and contrast holidays and traditions and embrace the diversity of those around them.
The unit is broken down into ten lessons including

CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS IN GERMANY (including St. Nicholas Day)
CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS IN THE NETHERLANDS (including St. Nicholas Day)
CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS IN ITALY (including Epiphany)
CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS IN SWEDEN (including St. Lucia Day)
CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS IN MEXICO (including Las Posadas)
CELEBRATING HANUKKAH - ISRAEL
CELEBRATING DIWALI - INDIA
CELEBRATING KWANZAA - AFRICA/AMERICA
CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS - AMERICA
HOLIDAYS AROUND THE WORLD REVIEW
What type of activities are included in this resource?
Students will travel around the world to learn more about holidays in other countries and cultures, but first they'll create an adventure backpack and travel brochure. Their passports will accompany them throughout their journey. Students will create a keepsake souvenir at each "stop" and document their learning in their travel brochures. Cross curricular activities (ELA & MATH) are also included with this resource.
