Description
Romeo and Juliet is Shakespeare's most widely taught play. This complete bundle showcases The Bard's work under the lens of an inquiry-driven philosophy. Students will focus their work on answering the Essential Question: Which is more reliable - the head or the heart? Using Romeo & Juliet as a core text to explore this question, students will work to unravel the ways in which logic, emotion, intuition, impulse, peer and familial pressure influence the trajectory of our lives.
The unit begins with a wide variety of pre-reading activities -- there are more included than you could possibly use, so pick and choose which works for your time frame and switch it up year to year if you wish.
The unit is organized on a calendar that dedicates one week per act and combines acts 4 & 5 at the end. The unit culminates in one of two ways: a synthesis essay answering the essential question OR a project in which students take what they've learned from the story and turn it into a profitable franchise (like Harry Potter, the Marvel Universe, etc.).
This unit contains a balance of formative assessment, close reading, fun activities, and skill-building lessons.

- a unit full of multiple choice reading quizzes
- designed to be used with students reading every single pages of the play out loud and doing study guide questions
- a print-and go no effort needed resource
