WORLD WAR II
AIM: How did Adolf Hitler gain power before the start of World War II?
✅ ACTIVITY 1: PROPAGANDA ANALYSIS:
Students will analyze propaganda designed to target Hitler youth. Students should analyze the poster to see how it contradicted the reality of German life as Germans were living in economic poverty resulting from WW1 reparations and the Great Depression.
✅ ACTIVITY 2: PRIMARY SOURCE ANALYSIS:
Students will analyze an excerpt from Mein Kampf to assess Hitler's beliefs in the power of propaganda and the means he believed it should be used by a political party to achieve success.
✅ ACTIVITY 3A: TEXT ANALYSIS:
Students will analyze a text about Hitler's personal rise to power from being a soldier in World War I and becoming a vocal force rallying against the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, to the Beer Hall Putsch and his subsequent imprisonment where he released his manifesto Mein Kampf, to consolidating power as Chancellor of Germany to become dictator.
✅ ACTIVITY 3B: TEXT ANALYSIS:
Students will analyze methods used by Nazis to gain support, namely propaganda, implementation of the Hitler Youth program, to the Nuremberg Rallies/Laws.
