Readers Theater: Father Sky & Mother Earth (Navajo Creation Story)
- PDF
Description
This is a readers theater script featuring the Navajo creation story, "Father Sky and Mother Earth". It was workshopped as part of the Native American Curriculum Initiative (NACI) in Utah and has been approved by representatives of the Navajo people. It teaches a valuable lesson about how all things above and below must work and live together in harmony and is perfect for Native American Heritage Month (November), Thanksgiving, or whenever you teach about US history, Native history, religion, and culture.
The sample packet showcases the first and last page of the 12-page script along with the cast of characters. It was written to feature 13 speaking roles and 7 sound crew that perform percussion instruments to represent certain characters. The sound crew members are non-speaking roles and their parts are typed in blue font.
The sample packet also features an instruction page for the sound crew, casting (how to add or reduce the amount of roles in the script), clarification on when groups speak the same dialogue, optional staging with a diagram, and an important note on costuming.
