What educators are saying

Quotations can be so tricky for my learning support students, but this resource is set up in a way that is easy to navigate and understand! Thank you!
This was great practice for my students. I ended up using small pieces of pipe-cleaners instead of noodles.

Description

I created this dialogue and quotation mark resource after I noticed many of my first graders were trying to use dialogue in their narrative writing. This 80 page unit is packed with engaging, hands-on activities to help your students master quotation mark placement and usage within their writing! It also contains comprehension reading passages to teach character dialogue skills to students.

*Download the Preview File to see a glimpse of the activities and pages included in this unit!*

When your students receive their Punctuation Pasta Party invitations, they will be begging you to tell them what is coming next in your writing lessons! Students will use macaroni as manipulatives for quotation marks and commas in sentences and short reading passages.

Your students will create, write, read, and produce their own dialogue during this fun unit! It comes with a mini book, a writing center, TONS of printable practice pages for dialogue and quotation marks, Quick Fix Quotation sheets to be used as practice or assessment, a fun Pasta Writing Center with differentiated recording sheets, differentiated practice pages, posters for quotation mark rules in both color and black & white options, and suggestions for using these activities in whole group and small group learning. It also includes sample photographs for anchor charts, an introductory lesson, and a recommended read-aloud page to use throughout the unit.

This pack was designed for first and second graders. It could be used as third grade intervention material for older students who need some remedial learning in dialogue and punctuation.

I hope you enjoy this unit! Please contact me with any questions you may have prior to purchasing. My students had SO much fun with this pack and I know your little writers will as well! :)

Happy Learning,
