Description
Project Based Learning Activity: President For The Week
In this project students will take on the role as president of their country. Early on, students are informed they will be president for a week and must complete a variety of activities and projects that presidents face on a daily basis.
This project combines writing, research, collaboration, social studies, current events, and provides unlimited opportunities for students to show their own prior knowledge.

There is a link to a Google Slides Version. Details below.
*This resource can be used for distance learning and e-learning.*
Students will conduct various one to two page activities based upon the role of president. This will include brainstorming, defining what they believe in, picking members for their Cabinet, writing speeches, creating laws, designing a monument, animal conservation, and trying to come up with solutions to issues that face the nation.
There are 12 activities for students to work through, but the teacher can choose how expansive they would like the project to be. Each student’s activities will be different from their neighbor’s based on the decisions they make through the project.
PAGE
9 Introduction
Students learn that they’ll become president of their country for a week.
10 BrainStorm
Students discuss and brainstorm everything they think they know about being president.
11 What you believe In
Students write about how they feel about six important issues. These topics can be used in their speech.
12 Fill the Cabinet
Students pick members for their Cabinet including advisors, secretary of state, and even a presidential pet.
13 Inaugural Speech
Students write their inaugural speech and include topics they think are important and the public needs to know about.
14 President’s Ball
Students prepare the President’s Ball by selecting dinner, guests, and activities.
15, 16 Three Laws
Students create new laws and tell why they think they should be created.
-This also includes a second page that only has space for TWO laws (pick which is best for your class).
17,18 Build a Monument
Students pick a person, place, or thing that deserves a monument. Students will then create and design it.
19 Animal Conservation
Students pick an animal that will be placed on the protected/endangered animal list.
20 Instaprez
Students snap a couple of pictures inside their new presidential home.
-In the U.S.A it would be the White House, but it works for any country.
21-25 Problem Solver
Students are given issues/topics and must create a viable solution to fix them.
26 Problem Solver Template
This page is a blank in the ISSUE area. Teachers or students can insert their own issue. This might be something more regional or even a topic within their school.
27 Be Better, Be Awesome
Students think of ways to make people awesome and write a short pep talk.
28 The End of the Week
Students create a self portrait and reflect on their legacy.
29 Animal Conservation
Alternate version: Students must draw the country they live in, rather than coloring on the U.S.A map.
As students work through each page, they will make their own decisions and choose the outcomes based on information they learn. By the end, all students will have completed the project, but each version will be based on the creator’s imagination, creativity, and knowledge base.
All pages can be geared towards multiple grade levels, although for some younger students the teacher may need to give more explicit instructions.
Students may choose to use multiple resources to complete each page. They might even choose to work with a partner, but you get final say on that.
