Description
⭐ NO PREP DIGITAL WRITING UNIT: Engage students in 5th, 6th, and 7th grades as they explore and write 10 types of poems: acrostic, rhyming couplet, clerihew, Collom lune, haiku, tanka, American cinquain, synonym diamante, antonym diamante, and free verse.
This unit is ideal for when the kids need something engaging before break, for those last few days of the quarter, to break up test prep, or for the end of the school year.
**DESIGNED FOR GRADES 5-7**
Students will:
- review poetry terms, figurative language and sound devices, and basic rules for dividing syllables
- learn the rules for 10 different poem types and view an example of each
- read a writing prompt for each poem type and brainstorm ideas for their poems
- write their own poem for each type using graphic organizers
►Everything you need for the unit is included in the slideshow. This is a no-prep resource! Simply upload to Google Classroom, share via Google Drive, or print!
- Support is provided in the margins throughout the slideshow.
- A quick and easy scoring rubric is included at the end of the slideshow as well as an editable version of the rubric that can be customized to your liking.
►This unit is ideal for whole group, small group, and one-on-one instruction for the grade levels I have tagged. It also works well for Response to Intervention (RTI), private tutoring, summer school, and remote learning.
►For students working below grade level, I recommend using the teacher-led/ direct instruction method outlined in the teacher guide. Some students will need a high level of teacher support throughout the unit.
►A note about using this for independent work... This could be assigned for homework or learning stations if your students have been introduced to the concepts and skills prior to assigning it. I would also consider whether or not your students are good at reading and following directions as they change for each poem.
