Description

Are your students studying a planet in our solar system? Students will use this no -prep writing research project to practice basic writing and Language Arts skills. They will choose a planet to research and then will use that information to write an informational paragraph, a narrative story and a poem.

They can use the facts they learn to describe the characters in their story, to create events for their story and to write their poem.

Some students may choose to write a narrative by telling something that happened to them but add some fiction details. Many times, it is easier for a child to tell a story about something they’ve already done. Then they can add fiction details to their story. You could talk about realistic fiction if they choose to do the story this way.

This is a great time to talk about fiction vs non-fiction. You can also talk about non-fiction text structure as they complete the informational article, the poem, and the narrative.

You could also have the students create their own book using their article, their narrative, and their poem. You could put construction paper on the front and back and staple it or you could bind each book.
