Why Morphology?

Morphology is the study of words and their parts. Morphemes - Greek and Latin roots, prefixes and suffixes, and base words - are the smallest units of meaning. A strong understanding of morphology helps students with phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension. Morphology word study and vocabulary instruction unlocks the structures and meanings within words.

This is week 1 of several weekly morphology units. Students will learn 5 new roots and affixes each week and 10 new vocabulary words that use the root words prefixes and suffixes. Each weekly unit will introduce, teach, review, and practice Greek and Latin roots and affixes!

  • 5 Greek or Latin roots and affixes with definitions
  • 10 vocabulary words based on these Greek or Latin roots and affixes
