Lyrical Analysis of Taylor Swift's "Teenage Love Triangle" (PDF & Digital)
What educators are saying
Description
This lyrical analysis assignment requires students to analyze the songs Betty, August, and Cardigan from Taylor Swift's album Folklore. Swift has stated that there are three songs on the album that are connected by telling the story of a teenage love triangle from three different perspectives at different times in their lives. Students will analyze these three songs and make interpretations to determine which song is told from Betty, James, and the other woman's perspective.
The resource includes:
- Teacher's guide
- Answer key containing lyrical interpretations to help provide a basis to assess your student's work
- 7-page student handout with instruction page, lyrical analysis charts for each song, summary writing assignment, 7 creative writing project options, and a project rubric
The digital version on Google Slides includes text box overlays for students to type their responses, and clickable links to each lyric music video. The link to make a copy to your Google Drive is on page 2 of the PDF download.
This resource is great for teaching how to assess multiple perspectives in narration and can be used as a stand alone lesson or as a complementary text.
