Description
There are 27 literary terms here in all including: simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, repetition, archetype, analogy, onomatopoeia, imagery, internal rhyme, parallel structure, mood, juxtaposition, counterargument, understatement, allusion, parody, satire, symbol, alliteration, verbal irony, dramatic irony, situational irony, rhetorical question, logical appeal (logos), ethical appeal (ethos), emotional appeal (pathos).
Print these cards on cardstock (or have them laminated) and cut them out. Each page has 3 literary terms, 3 definitions, and 3 visual examples.
I use these cards in a cooperative learning activity. Give each student a card. No students are to look at their card until you start a stop watch. I use Online Stopwatch. Once the time starts, students are to find the two others who match up with the card they received. Not until ALL students have found their group of 3 does the time stop.
I repeat this procedure as many times as possible. The class goal is to complete this task in the least amount of time. Instead of putting students in competition against one another, they must work together as a class to get the fastest time.
These cards can also be used as a puzzle with individual students or small groups correctly matching all terms, definitions, and examples.
Product file contains a PDF and editable Microsoft Word Doc.
