(Literacy Integrated) Geometry with African Shapes Lesson Plan Bundle

This lesson plan is designed as a introduction and review to learning the basic shapes. The lesson plan is for 1st grade, but can also be used with 2nd for review. The lesson has literacy integrated as it uses a mathematics children's literacy book called "A Triangle for Adaora: An African Book of Shapes" by Ifeoma Onyefulu. The lesson plan also introduces students to quilts and how shapes are put together to create intricate designs. It is based around bringing culture into your classroom by learning about a girl living in Africa and what shapes can be found in African clothing, food and cities.
