Description

Hands-on learning!

In this lab, students have to opportunity to simulate subcutaneous and intramuscular injections. Instead of performing the injections on live animals, the students use fruit to simulate the conditions.

Students have a short reading assignment that walks them through:

  • Different methods for administering medication
  • Why injections are used over other methods
  • The difference between subcutaneous and intramuscular injections

Students will then have the opportunity to practice injections and see where medication was administered.

Materials needed

  • fruit (bananas are cheap and easy)
  • Needles (available at TSC or other local farm stores)
  • Syringes
  • Food dye (to serve as visual for "medication")
