What educators are saying

This resource is very functional and relevant for students. It is great for a weekly entry/exit activity or the whole lesson can be built around it.
I used this as a weekly word wall for my students in speech therapy. We would talk about each word at the beginning and end of the sessions. I also shared this with my colleagues to help students prep for state testing.

Description

This product is designed to strengthen a student's testing vocabulary throughout an entire school year, with one word used per week (with a total of 40 words) in a regular classroom, speech therapy room, ESL/ELL room, or Title I room. This is appropriate for upper elementary, middle school, and high school students, depending upon ability level. (I have used it sucessfully with students ranging in age from 4th grade through middle school.)

NEW: GOOGLE SLIDES VERSION OF TERM CARDS AND WORKSHEETS ADDED JULY 2021! PLEASE RE-DOWNLOAD FOR UPDATE.

The forty words selected for this product are aligned to the Common Core State Standards, and are ones that are often found in directions and standardized tests, which are thus very important for students to comprehend. Some of the words include: predict, conclude, summary, paraphrase, opinion, quantity, trace, sequence, infer, compare, priority, analyze, define, interpret, quantity, consecutive, event, discuss, likely, result, state, concept, passage, contrast, persuade, demonstrate, conflict, and comment.

Choose one word each week, and review the word, definition, synonym, and example sentence with your students. You may display it on a bulletin board, poster, on a projector, or any other surface in your classroom. It is recommended to make a word wall of each word used during the year for students to refer back to during the year. You may use the words in any order that you would prefer.

For extra practice, there are worksheets provided for each sound, as well as a matching game (where students are asked to match the vocabulary word and the synonym). These are both provided in black and white for convenience in making multiple copies as needed for your students. (Please download the preview file to see samples.)

Included in this product are 40 target words and definitions in several different color options (pink, green, yellow, blue, and blue/purple), along with a worksheet for each word (2 words per page for a total of 20 pages), as well as a matching game (10 pages). There is also a recording sheet included to keep track of which week you use each word and a two page matching pre-/post-test with answer key included.
