Group size: 3-5 students (Note: This can be completed as an individual and/or pair activity)
Time: Approximately 30 minutes per challenge (Provide hints along the way if time is a factor!)
Materials: Aside from the materials that you would already have in your classroom (pencils, pens, scissors and colored pencils or crayons), no additional supplies are needed! These escape room-style games were created as a print-and-go resource. A digital Google Forms grading option has been provided for Challenge #1.

THE TASK:
BOO! It’s a dark, cold Halloween night and the gates closed and locked you in the graveyard. However, before the ghosts and ghouls come out on this terrifying evening, you can be freed, but you will have to successfully complete a series of tasks and challenges. Will you escape?
Challenge #1: Halloween Headlines
Put your detective skills in place because this challenge is going to require you to unlock a secret message in a unique Halloween font found within a haunted house. In order to successfully complete this challenge, you will have to answer a series of questions based on three separate newspaper articles.
Challenge #2: Halloween's Most Wanted
You will race to answer a bunch of Halloween-themed trivia questions, then decorate your wanted posters according to the answers. In order to successfully complete this challenge, you will have to correctly color each of the characters on the wanted posters according to the task cards provided.
Challenge #3: Halloween Costumes
In order to successfully complete this challenge, you will have to sharpen your pencil (and eyes!) and pay attention to the letters within the maze to identify various Halloween costumes. You will collect letters along your way, which will spell out the costume. In addition, you will have to search to find hidden Halloween costumes, including a hidden, mystery costume.
Challenge #4: Witch's Kitchen
Unscramble the puzzle pieces to reveal the various items found in the picture, then work together to put the photographs of the items from the witch’s kitchen together. Finally, unscramble the letters found in the puzzle pieces to complete the mystery potion ingredients.
Challenge #5: Zombie Apocalypse
In order to successfully complete this challenge, you will have to be able to identify various facts about possible escape locations. Be careful, though! If you incorrectly answer any of the questions, you will contract a zombie virus!
BONUS Challenge #6: Trick-or-treat!
In order to successfully complete this challenge, you will have to match up popular Halloween candy to their correct name, picture and/or fact. You will do this by placing the correct candy with its match in the Magic Number Box. If your answers are all correct, the numbers in each column and row will add up to the exact same number. This is the “magic” number.
*Upon completion of the challenges, four themed ("The Great Halloween Escape") editable certificates have been included, so you can easily type in a name and date and give each student who participated something for their efforts! In addition, a post-challenge reflection has also been included!*
