This is a 17 slide guided powerpoint presentation I put together as an end of the year activity for my AP Lang and 11th grade Literature students. It goes over:
-Current trends for College Admissions for 2024-2025
-Definitions for Narrative Writing and Personal Essay Writing
-College Prompts provided by the Common App
-How to break down prompt questions
-Do's and Don'ts for personal essays
-Writing strategies
-Examples of successful and unsuccessful essays
My students are going to spend about a week practicing breaking down prompts, using the writing strategies, reading/grading sample essays, and writing our own personal essays. The powerpoint itself can be used for 1-2 class periods depending on whether or not you practice breaking down some of the prompts or have the students use any of the quick writing strategies.
