Description

Do you want to help your students write complete and detailed sentences? This no prep writing resource uses real life photos of animals to encourage students to expand sentences. The easy to use graphic organizers give students the tools to independently expand sentences about the colorful photos provided. Student will practice using different adjectives, verbs, and nouns to describe each photo. They may also learn about an animal they have never heard of before and learn some new vocabulary words from their peers. This resource can be easily differentiated to meet the needs of all students.

Here's what you'll get:

  • How to use this resource guide
  • 95 pages with a graphic organizer and lines for students to write their detailed sentences
  • Colorful photos to project
  • 9 example pages on how to complete the organizers and write detailed sentences using the organizers (1 example page provided for each of the 9 topics in this resource)
  • List of animals
  • Blank organizer (add your own photo or have students draw a picture)

The photos are on each page to make describing it very accessible for the students. I have also provided a PowerPoint presentation with the larger color photos, so you can project the photos for the students to see and talk about. This is especially helpful if you do not have access to a color printer.

The topics included are:

  • African safari animals
  • Forest animals
  • Desert animals
  • Rainforest animals
  • Australian animals
  • Arctic animals
  • Ocean animals
  • Farm animals
  • Pets

My students use these to write detailed sentences during their writing center. This can also be used as morning work or an option for early finishers. My students are always excited to see which photo they get for the day.

TEACHERS LIKE YOU SAID:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Gina says, "I absolutely love this! My students have been struggling with writing complete sentences and they have been having so much fun with this resource. Thank you!"

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Karen says, "I use this with my expanding ELLs. It is a very useful tool in helping them create more complex sentences. In just a few weeks of use, we have gone from 3-4 word sentences to lengthier, more descriptive sentences. I appreciate the fact that the seller included a file that has just the photos. As we progressed, we kept a template handy and used the bigger photos in creating our sentences."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Kayleen says, "I am so happy I found this resource! I work with DHH students and they struggle to write in complete English sentences because ASL is their primary language. By breaking apart the sentences into manageable chunks (the boxes with questions) and identifying which part of speech the boxes/questions aligned with, my students were able to build complete English sentences. Great resource!"

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Heather says, "This was an engaging resource for my students to work on expanding sentences. They loved it and asked to do more. You know you have a winner when they ask to do more work."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Janet says, "This was very helpful when teaching students to add detail to their sentences. It was fun for them to do and they enjoyed the pictures. I was able to easily put pages into Seesaw."
