Description

32 Matching cards game for Elements & Principles of Art & Color Theory. These matching flashcards are a great starter activity to introduce and teach essential visual arts vocabulary. Students work in groups to match the word with the definition. Simply print, then laminate the sheets, cut them out, and then in half and you are ready to start learning!

Vocabulary included:

  • Line, Shape, Value, Texture, Form, Space, Color, Hue, Positive Space, Negative Space, Balance, Emphasis, Movement, Proportion, Contrast, Variety, Rhythm, Repetition, Pattern, Unity, Geometric, Organic, Implied Texture, Actual Texture, Primary Colors, Secondary Colors, Analogous Colors, Complementary Colors, Tertiary or Intermediate Colors, Monochromatic Colors, The Color Wheel, Color Theory

Ways to use in the classroom:

  • Interactive Vocabulary Review: Divide the class into groups and distribute the flash cards. Each group has to match the word with its corresponding definition. To make it more engaging, set a time limit and make it a race between groups to see who can match all the cards correctly first.
  • Speed Rounds: Have a fast-paced activity where students match the cards against the clock. Shuffle the flashcards and give each student a set. They compete to match the most pairs correctly within a time limit, promoting quick recall and understanding.
  • Charades or Pictionary: Break the class into two teams. One student picks a card and acts out or draws clues related to the word while their team tries to guess the word. This method encourages creativity and critical thinking skills while reinforcing vocabulary.
  • Incorporate Art Activities: After matching the words and definitions, students can create visual representations or artworks inspired by the paired vocabulary. For instance, they can illustrate the words, create collages, or make sketches that embody the meaning of the vocabulary.
